So, you decided to write a new blog post for your blog today and ran into the most common obstacle – finding a blog post topic.

I know why you are here. You want to make sure you come up with the most spectacular blog post topic that could draw more and more traffic to your website. Well, that’s a pretty good reason to search for ways to come up with a blog post topic.

Finding a blog post topic for your website takes time and serious effort. Well, finding a good one anyway. You might come up with several ideas and create a list of them and still be unsure as to which topic you should go forward with.

In this post, I’m going to help you out with that by asking questions that will help you decide on your next blog post topic. So, without wasting any more time and effort, let’s get started!

Top Five Questions You Should Ask to Find Your Next Blog Post Topic

These questions are only going to help you find the next blog post topic for your website if you answer them honestly and stay true to your heart. With that in mind, let’s figure this out!

1. Are you passionate about the topic?

We’re opening up with a big question here – do you even like the topics you have shortlisted? Modern-day consumers are smart. They know when a brand is faking it or really being genuine about caring for their customers. Passion is something that can rarely be hidden. In the case of your blog, it can be recognized by the history of the posts previously published on it.

Here’s the thing you need to know – passionate content attracts passionate people and the positive energy spreads. The energy will bring in more passionate people and the blog post reader count will blow up. So, how exactly are you going to find a blog topic you are passionate about?

Choose a topic that you truly enjoy and have strong feelings about. If you stay motivated about the blog and the post, you’ll definitely find time in the future to update it. It will help keep the blog post alive and also make it rank higher in search results. Stay with the topics you are really attached to. This will help you bring more knowledge and personality to your blog.

2. Do you like to talk about the topic?

I mean, really like talking about it. The blog posts you write will only be successful if they trigger a two-way conversation. It should make the readers engage and put forward their own views on the topic. Even if they don’t comment on your blog (which you should encourage them to), you must at least stir this inner dialogue in your reader’s minds.

The only way to trigger this emotion in your readers is to write about a topic you really like talking about. You can be passionate about so many things. But when it comes to striking up a conversation, especially with the community you have built around your blog, you need to come up with a topic you can talk about without a bit of hesitation.

Writing a blog post on a topic you already love talking about is probably the best thing you can do to make the post speak to your readers more directly.

3. Would you easily debate on the topic?

If provided with an opportunity, would you go back and forth with someone who doesn’t agree with what you say in the post? This is important to know because you need to realize how deeply you feel connected to your views on the topic and how much you are willing to take disagreements on the post. Now I’m not suggesting you start arguments with your audience. This is more about judging your own level of passion about the topic.

So, people from all walks of life will read your blog post, right? They will have their own ideas about the topic and might not agree with yours. If you really enjoy discussing the blog’s topics and appreciate the debates that happen in the comments section, you really should go forward with the topic you have chosen.

However, stay away from writing on a blog post topic that you are not comfortable with. To keep your writing fresh and alive, you have to be able to speak freely.

4. Is the topic highly controversial?

Always remember – controversial topics can make or break your blog. This makes it important to know about your readers’ interests. There might be times when you choose a topic that your visitors have a strong disagreement about. This could even lead to them attacking you personally in the comments section.

If you like to avoid such altercations, you should stay away from controversial topics. Now, if you are comfortable with the controversial topic at hand and have enough reasons to defend your position on the issue, you should go ahead and write on it.

Also, make sure the discussion in the comments section doesn’t get too heated. You should always know when to quit the debate and move on to the next blog post. Or when to encourage your readers to do the same.

5. Will you enjoy researching about the topic?

Finally, you will be spending a lot of time and effort doing research for the blog post. You will have to spend hours to find information that you can include in your blog post to make it more credible and informative.

The quest for providing fresh and meaningful content will lead you to conduct in-depth analysis and research on that blog post topic. The thing you need to remember is that you will not enjoy this process if the blog post topic doesn’t speak to you.

Over to You

OK, there you have it. By now, you know what you need to look for while choosing your next blog post topic. I believe it’s important to feel connected in some way to the topic you’re writing about because it’s only then that you will be able to provide the best value to your readers. Don’t just write for the sake of getting out a new blog post. After all, everything you write on your blog is a reflection of who you are, right?
