These days I’m seeing a lot of products saying you have to attend a webinar after you’ve made your purchase. Sometimes it’s to get “complete training”, or “learn everything you need to know about the product you just purchased”. But this is often not revealed until after you’ve completed the purchase.
Look, I buy a lot of “shiny objects” related to the world of internet marketing. You know… “product of the week” kind of stuff. Sometimes it’s new training products that reveal the latest killer method or strategy. Sometimes it’s membership in an online service that has everything you need in one place, or the latest page builder for Word Press. I must have licenses for 5 or 6 page builders alone.
So, yes, I was kind of shocked when several of the products I purchased recently said I needed to attend a webinar to learn how to use the product. Really? My money is not enough, now I have to give you my time…on YOUR schedule?
In one case I purchased a new product from one of my favorite marketers. On the welcome page, there was a short video and three steps listed that “urgently” needed to be done. One of them was to register for the webinar the following day (these were being held every day, live) to get training on how to make money with the product.
Now, the webinar was only offered at one time in the early afternoon every weekday, but not on weekends. That seemed very inflexible. What if you’re still working a job for a living? Anyway, like I said, this was one of my favorite marketers. I was, of course, disappointed. And of course, he made things right by posting a recording of the webinar inside the member’s area and left it there. Problem solved.
I purchased another product that also said a webinar was required to get full training. They sent out a link to the webinar replay but they only made it available for 2 days. Well, I don’t think that’s enough time. If it was a promotional webinar, sure, two days seems like it would be fine. But when it’s for something you’ve paid for, I think you should have more than two days to access important training that you weren’t told about before the purchase.
It seems like these “You must attend to learn how to use what you paid for” webinars are mostly held during the day when most people are still at their full-time jobs. I think that’s OK as long as they post a replay of the webinar in an appropriate place. But they need to leave it there for an appropriate amount of time. In fact, I think they should leave it up permanently. After all, these days most people are overwhelmed with just life.
Have you encountered this trend? Were you able to attend the webinar that would teach you how to “maximize” your use of the product or technique? Let me know what you think in the comments.
‘Til next time,
Dave
